MPs support know your skin campaign

On Wednesday 25th May MPs met with melanoma skin cancer specialists and patients to support our ‘Know your skin: Be smart about skin cancer’ campaign event. The event was hosted by our Sir Chris Bryant, MP and Amy Callaghan, MP. Chris Bryant MP was diagnosed with stage 3 melanoma skin cancer in 2019 and became a Patron of Melanoma Focus shortly afterwards.

The event provided us with the opportunity to highlight Melanoma Awareness Month and share vital information about the dangers of excessive sun and UV exposure. The MPs heard about the concerning spike in melanoma skin cancer cases in the UK and the increasing importance of symptom awareness.

Susanna Daniels, CEO of Melanoma Focus, said: “We were very pleased to welcome so many MPs to our ‘Know your skin: Be smart about skin cancer’ campaign event. We are using Melanoma Awareness Month to encourage people across the country to protect themselves from melanoma and be aware about potential symptoms. Melanoma skin cancer is the 5th most common cancer in the UK, yet it is largely preventable.”

We would like to say a big thank you to Sir Chris Bryant and Amy Callaghan, to all the MPs in attendance, and also the wonderful patients, Luke, Lucy and Shiona.
