Paul’s Story
Paul was diagnosed with melanoma on his scalp in 1993 when he was only 17 years old and he received chemotherapy treatment (which was the treatment given at the time as immunotherapy and targeted therapy were not available) and a radical neck dissection which resulted in the removal of thirty-three lymph nodes.

Ross’ Story
During 2015 Ross was diagnosed with stage 2a cutaneous melanoma. He underwent a Wide Local Excision (WLE) and a Sentinel Lymph Node Biopsy (SLNB), his results came back negative and after five years of surveillance he was discharged in 2020. Unfortunately, in 2023 it was discovered that the melanoma had spread through his body which also resulted in the blinding of one eye. Two years later he is now no evidence of disease (NED), here he very kindly shares his story.

Robert’s Story
During June 2019, Robert was diagnosed with a stage 4 melanoma. He completed 3 ipilimumab treatments and a further 15 months of nivolumab treatment. He responded well and his tumours started to reduce other than one which was later found out to be Adreno-Cortical Cancer. Five years on from the removal of the left adrenal and six and a half years after his stage 4 diagnosis, Robert is now no evidence of disease (NED). Here, he very kindly shares his full story.

Alison’s Story
During 2022, Alison was diagnosed with amelanotic melanoma. She has since undergone a Wide Local Excision and a Sentinel Lymph Node Biopsy and did a year of Immunotherapy (pembrolizumab) treatment. Up until 2025, Alison was doing well until a tumour was found on one of her lymph nodes, which has now been removed and treated. She will now have regular scans and wants to share her story to help raise awareness.

Craig’s Story
During 2021, Craig was diagnosed with stage 2 melanoma which unfortunately later progressed to stage 4 during 2022. He started immunotherapy (ipilimumab and nivolumab) during June 2022 and unfortunately, he experienced side effects leading to sepsis and hepatitis. Once this was managed, he found out in September 2022 that he was No Evidence of Disease (NED). He now receives scans every 3 months and wants to share his story to provide hope to others.

Rob’s Story
During January 2023 at just 32 years old, Rob was diagnosed with stage 3C melanoma. In March 2023 he had a Wide Local Excision (WLE) and a Sentinel Lymph Node Biopsy (SLNB). Then in June, Rob started 12 months of adjuvant targeted treatment (Dabrafenib & Trametinib.) He is now 2 years post diagnosis and remain under quarterly surveillance with MRI and CT scans.

Alastair’s Story
During 2017, Alastair was diagnosed with an extremely rare condition called melanoma associated retinopathy. His melanoma treatment has included a groin node clearance and laparoscopic pelvic node clearance and radiotherapy to groin and pelvis in 2024. He is now receiving a course of pembrolizumab. He has also had high dose steroids, immunoglobulin, plasma exchange and mycophenolate to treat his retinopathy. Here he has very kindly shared his story with us.

Leigh’s Story
During 2010, Leigh was diagnosed with stage 3A melanoma, and she went on a clinical trial. Seven years later scans showed that the melanoma had spread within her body. She was firstly treated with dabrafenib and trametinib and after 7 months was switched to ipilimumab and nivolumab and then just received nivolumab. She has now been off treatment for 3 years and is doing well, here she has very kindly shared her story.

Claire’s Story
During 2024, aged 39 years old Claire was diagnosed with stage 1 melanoma which was removed via wide local excision and there was no further spread. She used sunbeds as a teenager and has kindly shared her story with us to raise awareness about the dangers.

During 2012, aged just 23 years old Emma was diagnosed with stage 1a melanoma which was removed with surgery. She, unfortunately, then went on to have another stage 1a melanoma aged 29 years old which was removed after her second pregnancy. She has very kindly shared her story with us.

Caroline’s Story
Caroline was diagnosed with stage 3 melanoma in 2009 after she noticed a dark freckle on the top of her foot changing. During this time there were very limited treatments available, the lymph nodes in her groin were removed and she received follow up appointments for 5 years. She has been NED for the last few years.
