Matt’s National Three Peaks Challenge
“It’s been overwhelming, and quite emotional. I can’t thank everybody enough. The whole team has helped towards that ultimate goal of raising awareness and money to support people through similar experiences.”
In the summer of 2021, Matt Heywood was diagnosed with stage 2 melanoma, this progressed to stage 3. Since then, Matt has undergone four surgeries and is currently having treatment, he also decided to take on his own challenge to raise money and awareness for Melanoma Focus.
On the 13th August 2022, Matt along with his team of family and friends conquered the National Three Peaks challenge in 24 hours. They began in Scotland, reaching the top of Ben Nevis, they then ventured to the Lake District where they mastered the highest mountain in England; Scafell Pike and then ended their epic challenge in Wales at the top of Snowdon.
Matt’s team members were made up of a variety of abilities, however were united by their dedication and motivation. Matt himself is an inspiration; his training for this challenge was not straightforward as he was also undergoing treatment and navigating the side effects from this. His determination and positive mindset is extremely compelling.
Matt and his brilliant team raised an amazing £12,000, Matt also uses his social media platform to raise awareness about melanoma and openly talk about his personal experiences.
We are beyond grateful to Matt and his team members; our work would not be possible without our fundraisers.
