Johnny’s Walk

“I’ve been battling this incurable cancer for two years now, and I’ve tried everything, but sadly there isn’t a cure for mucosal melanoma. It is important that even if there isn’t a treatment for me, there is for future generations – Melanoma Focus is campaigning for just that.”

Johnny was diagnosed with stage 4 anorectal mucosal melanoma in March 2023. Over the past 2 years the father of three has undergone eight complex operations and two courses of immunotherapy. Unfortunately, Johnny’s health has recently declined following the news that his cancer is now terminal.

The 45-year-old has recently completed a 15 mile fundraiser walk along with his wife Melissa and around 70 friends and family members. The walk started at St James’ Hospital in Leeds to the Down Syndrome Support Service in Bingley, which supports the needs of his five-year-old son Leo. Johnny’s walk raised over £25,000 for Melanoma Focus and over £27,000 for Bingley Down Syndrome Training & Support!

We are in awe of Johnny and his wonderful family, their strength and kindness have at times left us speechless. Words don’t do it justice, but we would like to say a huge thank you to Johnny, his family and friends, along with all the amazing people who very kindly donated and supported the fundraiser. We will forever be grateful to Johnny and the money that he has raised will make a huge difference to our melanoma community.
