The Samworth Brothers Charity Challenge

In 2015, Jon was diagnosed with amelanotic melanoma, unfortunately in 2022 this later spread to his lymph nodes. In May a now fully-fit Jon and a team of colleagues participated in the Samworth Brothers Charity Challenge – a triathlon-style event in Ambleside in the Lake District, comprising trekking, kayaking and biking. The team raised £2,340 in aid of Melanoma Focus and placed first, receiving an additional £1,000 prize for Melanoma Focus. Read more about Jon’s story here:

In 2015, Jon noticed that a mole on his thigh had become red and raised. It turned out that this was an amelanotic melanoma. The mole was successfully removed, and Jon was discharged in 2020 after completing 5 years of follow-up checks.

Unfortunately, in early 2022, Jon noticed a pea-sized lump in his groin – the melanoma had spread to his lymph nodes. Jon underwent surgery in August 2022 to remove the lymph nodes from his left thigh and groin, followed by 12 months of immunotherapy treatment. Jon said:

“Discovering that the melanoma had spread after being given the all clear 18-months previously was a huge shock for me and my family.”

“Treatment options have moved on significantly since my original diagnosis in 2015, and the post-surgery immunotherapy treatment I received significantly reduces the chances of my melanoma reoccurring in the future. It was great to be able to raise money which will help to fund research into treatments that will improve the outcomes for other melanoma patients.”

We would like to say BIG thank you and well done to Jon and his colleagues for completing this epic challenge! What an achievement. Your support means everything to us, we are extremely grateful.
