The Cancer Vaccine Launch Pad will help identify patients for a melanoma clinical trial
In order to engage with the UK population and encourage people to take part in cancer vaccine clinical trials, NHS England has launched the Cancer Vaccine Launch Pad (CVLP).
The CVLP is currently set up in a limited number of NHS Trusts in England only.
Through the CVLP, people with known cancer can be assessed to see if they might be eligible to join a specific cancer vaccine clinical trial and they will then be referred on to a hospital that is running that trial.
The CVLP has been successfully used to help recruit patients to a colorectal cancer vaccine trial and there are plans to use the CVLP to help identify melanoma patients for a current trial. The SCOPE trial is testing a cancer vaccine in combination with standard immunotherapy (ipilimumab+nivolumab or pembrolizumab) as first-line treatment for people diagnosed with advanced melanoma.
Dr Pippa Corrie, one of the SCOPE trial investigators said: “We are keen to make the UK a ‘go to’ country for cancer vaccine research. The CVLP offers a unique opportunity to expand patient access to vaccine trials, complete our clinical trials efficiently and inform clinical practice more quickly than in the past”.
