NICE’s draft guidance to currently NOT recommend lifileucel (TILs treatment) for previously treated unresectable or metastatic melanoma

The NICE Technology Appraisal Committee has published the draft guidance to currently NOT recommend lifileucel (TILs treatment) for previously treated unresectable or metastatic melanoma. This is not NICE’s final guidance and the recommendations may change after the consultation which closes on 5pm on 22 January 2026.

There is however, a second committee meeting currently planned on 12 May 2026 where further information and economic modelling will be discussed, with the expected publication of the final guidance on 10 July 2026.

Melanoma Focus are supporting the process both clinically as well as providing the patient voice. We believe that TILs treatment is such a critical new advancement that should be available as a treatment option for previously treated unresectable or metastatic melanoma.

Lifileucel is NOT currently licensed for use in the UK and therefore it is not currently available privately. For the treatment to be approved for use in the NHS, lifileucel will need to be licensed AND also NICE approved (or approved by the SMC in Scotland). We are hoping that there will be access for patients in 2026.
