Melanoma Focus’ Parliamentary Event 2025

MPs and Ministers showed their support for Melanoma Focus last week, by attending a parliamentary event to raise awareness of melanoma skin cancer. They met with melanoma skin cancer specialists and patients with first-hand experience of melanoma to discuss the importance of melanoma prevention and the dangers of excessive UV radiation. Here are some key highlights from the day:

• It was great to chat with MPs & Ministers to raise awareness about melanoma prevention, the dangers of excessive UV radiation and the need for the upcoming Cancer Plan to include action to tackle melanoma. 
• Our Sun Safety ambassador, Jaime Nobbs (Melanoma Clinical Nurse Specialist at the The Royal Marsden Hospital) joined us with a UV camera showing MPs why it is so important to wear sunscreen and reapply. 
• Mrs Jenny Geh (recently retired as Consultant Plastic Surgeon from Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS trust) was on hand to share insights from the perspective of a healthcare professional who has worked in the field of melanoma. 
• Important conversations took place giving us the chance to share with MPs the vital work that we do all year round.
• Patient advocates Lucy & Shiona were able to share real experiences of a melanoma diagnosis and the impact this has. We would like to say a huge thank you to all the MPs & Ministers that came along & supported this event.
