James takes on the 2024 London Marathon

“Raising awareness about the importance of getting checked and how easy early action can be was a big driver for me. But I have been incredibly moved by my friends and family digging deep in support of an amazing charity that relies so much on public generosity!”

On Sunday 21st April 2024, the brilliant James Jones completed the London Marathon in little over 4 hours and 40 minutes, he raised over £1,700 and raised vital awareness in the process. After 18 consecutive ballot rejections (and 4 COVID delays), James finally had the opportunity to smash this incredible challenge!

I was fortunate enough to get into London after 18 consecutive ballot entries, so I am more than aware of how much of a once in a lifetime opportunity this may have been. I decided to raise funds for Melanoma Focus after being diagnosed with a stage 1 melanoma on my shin in 2019. Fortunately, following a quick spot by my amazing wife, Jo, it was successfully removed and scarring aside all is well. The shock of this news has made me more aware of the importance of covering up and using appropriate protection when out in the sun and I would urge anyone to check their skin regularly!

Raising awareness about the importance of getting checked and how easy early action can be was a big driver for me. But I have been incredibly moved by my friends and family digging deep in support of an amazing charity that relies so much on public generosity! I’m delighted that to say that so far we’ve managed to raise £1,708 (way over my expectations) – I have no doubt that this will be put to great use in supporting all of the amazing work that Melanoma Focus does!

Despite the pain of the last three miles, it was the most incredible experience and totally worth the 19 year wait! The support from everyone that came out was truly amazing and it only added to the special occasion.

We would like to say a HUGE thank you to James, his family and supporters. Our work would not be possible without amazing fundraisers like you.
