Angela was diagnosed with stage 4 melanoma in May 2021 after experiencing issues with her breathing. She was placed on targeted therapy (dabrafenib & trametinib) and now has 3 monthly oncology appointments and 6 monthly CT scans.

In December 2013, district nurse Sue was diagnosed with stage 3B melanoma. During November 2019 scans revealed two tumours in her abdomen and auxiliary. She completed 4 rounds of immunotherapy treatment and 2 years of nivolumab with minimal side effects. She is no NED and has kindly shared her story with us.

In July 2014, Andrew's melanoma was confirmed to be stage 4 and he was told that without treatment he would have around 3-6 months to live. Fortunately, he had 1 dose of chemotherapy (the standard treatment prior to immunotherapy treatments and then 2 out of 4 doses of immunotherapy (Ipilimumab). Here, he kindly shares his full story.

During 2015 at just 24 years old junior doctor Suze was diagnosed with stage 2 melanoma Suze later got the news that she had multiple liver metastases, and her melanoma was stage 4. She received immunotherapy treatment for two years from 2016 to 2018. After 2 years, she had a complete response to treatment and no liver metastases on scans anymore. During 2023, Ben was diagnosed with stage 2B nodular, amelanotic melanoma aged 39. He has since completed one-year cycle of immunotherapy and has had MRI and CT scans every 12 weeks. In May 2024 Ben arranged for Tower 42 to be lit up, raising melanoma awareness across London. Here he very kindly shares his personal story.

During 2022, Bea was diagnosed with stage 3B acral lentiginous melanoma which was BRAF positive. She was placed on dabrafenib & trametinib targeted therapy for 12 months as adjuvant treatment. Bea is keen to raise awareness and has very kindly shared an honest account of her experience.

Dane was diagnosed with stage 3A melanoma skin cancer during August 2023 after his son spotted a mole on the back of his left knee whilst out walking their dog. Dane believes this mole had changed over time but because it was on the back of his leg, he hadn’t really noticed it before. He immediately visited his GP and within a week of this appointment the mole had been removed. Unfortunately, Dane’s initial results confirmed that he has stage T1a melanoma which was later fully staged as a stage 3A melanoma.

During December 2019, David was diagnosed with stage 2 melanoma which progressed to stage 3 melanoma about year later with the spread to the lymph nodes in his neck. In August 2021, David’s melanoma further progressed to stage 4 spreading to his liver, lungs and spine. In January 2024, following on from his immunotherapy treatment (combination ipilimumab and nivolumab followed by nivolumab) and radiotherapy to his spine, David was told that he had no evidence of disease (NED). He now attends routine follow up appointments. He is very keen to raise awareness and help others who may be going through a cancer diagnosis.

During September 2020 Jonathan was diagnosed with stage 2 ano-uro-genital mucosal melanoma, a rare form of melanoma and in November 2020, he underwent his first surgery to remove this. Unfortunately, the cancer had not been fully removed with clear margins and the operation had to be repeated. Jonathan has a rare mucosal melanoma which has further spread, and additional surgeries and treatments have continued, and he is now looking into alternative treatment options. In 2023, Elaine’s melanoma was initially diagnosed as Stage 2C. However, it was found during the full staging that a lymph node contained melanoma, with no further spread and she therefore was diagnosed as having stage 3C melanoma. She is now on a year’s course of targeted therapy (dabrafenib and trametinib) and has regular scans. Here, she generously shares her story with us.

On Christmas day in 2021, Philippa found a small lump in her vulva and after being referred by her GP, was diagnosed with vulval mucosal melanoma, a rare form of melanoma. During January 2022 she had an initial operation to remove this and in March 2022 she had a single lymph node removal. Following on from this in May 2022 a PET scan revealed metastatic lymph node outside of the pelvis and Philippa started double immunotherapy treatment (ipilimumab+nivolumab). She underwent further surgeries and her latest scan shows she is cancer-free. She has very kindly shared her story with us.

Charlotte was first diagnosed with Stage 3c melanoma in 2020, two years later Charlotte’s melanoma progressed to Stage 4 after spreading to her lungs. Since then, she has had targeted therapy (Dabrafenib and Trametinib) and immunotherapy (Iplimumab and Nivolumab). During Spring 2023, a scan picked up that Charlotte has three tiny brain metastases, she is now receiving further treatment and has regular 3 monthly scans. Here she very generously shares her story.
